How Rokform Got Its Start: Part II

Posted by lesliesaxman on May 14, 2013
Posted in: About Rokform. Tagged: about rokform, history of rokform. Leave a Comment

Last month, we told you a little bit about Rokform and how we got our start. We received so many comments and questions about that blog post; we decided to do another round of Q & A with our CEO, Jeff! Read what our office culture is like, which case Jeff is most proud of, and what he’d say to anyone starting his or her own business below!

RF-team-01

What are you most proud of in Rokform’s history? The fact that we were able to enter the market with a completely unique product and that it filled a need in the market. The v3 Mountable case.

How do you decide which athletes to sponsor? All of the athletes we sponsor are either friends of ours or athletes who contacted us directly wanting to be on the Rokform team.

What’s the Rokform office culture like? It is very laid back but active. Everyone works really hard and takes a lot of pride in the company, its products and customers.

Which case design are you most proud of? The v3 Mountable case with integrated mounting system and magnetic mount.

What does the logo (the circle with the dots surrounding it) mean? It is an abstract take-away from ancient Indian Rock Art. It is what inspired the name Rokform.

How do you decide which products to make accessories for? The accessories are driven by our own personal needs and customer requests.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start his or her own business? Don’t over-think it. If you are passionate about your idea and can be 100% committed to making it succeed, go for it.

Have more questions for Jeff or anyone else on our team? Let us know in the comments section below, or send a message on the Rokform Facebook page!

Rokform and the Samsung Galaxy S4

Posted by lesliesaxman on May 10, 2013

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been available for less than a month, but according a recent report from SquareTrade, 20% of Americans plan on buying one! In fact, it looks like even the notoriously loyal iPhone lovers are thinking about switching! Ty Shay, CMO of SquareTrade said, “Samsung continues to gain momentum in the market: 21 percent of Samsung owners previously had iPhones but defected.“

It’s no big surprise. The Galaxy S4 has been receiving nothing but praise! CNET’s review said, “With the Galaxy S4, Samsung clinches its goal of global smartphone domination. The supercharged Android 4.2 Jelly Bean device may look like a toy compared with the stunning HTC One and the dapper iPhone 5. But taken together, its blazing quad-core processor, colorful 5-inch HD screen, sharp-shooting 13-megapixel camera, and mile-high stack of software extras make the Galaxy S4 the most powerful superphone anywhere in the world.” Did you hear that? Superphone!

Unfortunately, the phone does have one major drawback: It breaks easily. Around 25% of Galaxy customers are projected to break their phone within the first year of owning it. You see, even with all of the Galaxy S4’s “superphone” features, it’s not perfect. A phone insurance firm did a drop test, and the Galaxy’s results were worse quite a bit worse than the iPhone 5. On a scale of 1 – 10 (10 being the worst), the S4 was a 7. The iPhone 5 scored a pretty respectable 5.

Luckily for all you Galaxy lovers, we’re here to help! Through the years, we’ve proven how tough our iPhone, iPad and Galaxy cases are. Our upcoming Rokform case for S4 won’t be any different. Our cases have more protection, function, and style than any other cases on the market.

So, what are you waiting for? Make sure you’re not part of that unlucky 25% who break their phone! Sign up to receive an update for when our S4 case is available, and order your RokDock Galaxy Stand right now!

Stepping out on the green and playing a round of golf can be very relaxing – whether you’re just beginning to play, already an expert, or playing with your family and friends. But maybe you’re ready to get off your regular green and try a new green. If your golf course just isn’t up to par anymore, try your game on these outrageous golf courses around the world.

Nullarbor Links, Australia

The Nullarbor Links in Australia is the world’s longest golf course, drawn out across 1,365 kilometers. The 18-hole, par 72 course encompasses 18 towns. Watch out for the sand traps, poisonous snakes, and water hazards along the way.

La Paz Golf Club, Bolivia

La Paz Golf Club boats the world’s highest grass golf course. The course was created on a mesa in Bolivia that stands at about 3,300m. Golfers get to play while gazing at the nearby, beautiful Andes mountains and badlands.

Uummannaq Ice Golf Course in Greenland

Your regular polo shirt and argyle socks aren’t going to cut it on this course. Greenland hosts an annual golf championship on a course made right in the ice. To win, golfers must win the 36-hole tournament, as well as avoid icebergs and hypothermia. The “green” is cut just days before the tournament, as glaciers and icebergs move year-round. Dress warmly if you’re planning on playing on this course!

Australia decided to conserve their water on this desert course green – the only “grass” you’ll find is the artificial pieces of grass golfers stand on to tee off. This par-72, 18 hole sand course (oiled down to prevent blowing sand) is perfect for smooth putting.

The Legend Golf and Safari Resort

The Legend Golf Resort in South Africa is for extreme golf lovers only. The resort features an 18-hole course, a golf academy, driving range, hotels, privately owned homes, recreational facilities, and more. Just watch out for the lions, tigers, and bears (OH MY!). Yes, you read that right – this course is also a wild game safari, so keep an eye out for lions, leopards, and rhinos as you play. The hole featured in the photo above is located on the edge of a cliff.

Yas Links in Abu Dhabi

This golf course in Dhabi is literally a golf lover’s amusement park. It has an 18-hole course, a Warner Brothers amusement park, a water park, and even an Indoor Formula One Grand Prix track. Perfect for golfers and families alike, Yas Links offers something for everyone.

While you’re out on the green, watch and improve your golf swing with Rokform’s Golf Shooter. Securely mount your smartphone onto the Golf Shooter and record your swing on and off the golf course. The Golf Shooter sticks on the golf turf as you practice and allows you to practice and improve on your own before you wow your friends with your golf skills.  Who wouldn’t want to watch themselves tee off a cliff?

RokBed Fuzion for iPhone 5

Posted by rokform on April 29, 2013
Posted in: Other Topics. 8 comments

We love the Rokform Fuzion cases just as much as you do, and trust us when we say, we are definitely working on one for the iPhone 5.  We are extremely fortunate to have Bernhard Leitner, Chief Engineer, on the Rokform Team.  He has been instrumental in the creation and execution of bringing you the versatile line of Rokform products.

With that said, we know you are waiting for a Fuzion for the iPhone 5.  We’ve read every comment and question from you on this topic and we hear you!  In some cases our answer sufficed, but many of you want an exact explanation or reason as to why we don’t have it done yet.  Our team has met and we want to share with you the intricacies which make this project a bit more time consuming than normal.

  • The iPhone 5 has four antennas (Cellular, Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS), all of which are affected to various degrees by close proximity to metal.  To not affect the signal strength of the antennas, we must test many designs to assure the best reception in many different environments.
  • The iPhone 5 body is made from anodized 6000 series aluminum.  Rokform cases are also made from 6000 series aluminum.  To prevent scratching, all contact between the case and phone must be prevented.

As you can see, to keep the case as slim as possible while preventing contact with the phone, while at the same time avoiding all four antennas, and keeping the superior quality that you expect from Rokform, is a difficult challenge.

While this has been one of the more challenging projects at Rokform, we are not giving up.  Our promise to our Fans is to continue our research and development, and keep everyone posted on any new details.

Thank you so much for your continued support and understanding.

- The Rokform Team

10 Cell Phone Etiquette Tips for Work

Posted by lesliesaxman on April 26, 2013
Posted in: Accessories, Tips. Tagged: cell phone etiquette, RokDock, Tips. 1 comment

Cell phones have become as important to work life as computers. You need your phones to help you keep track of your busy schedule! Even though you basically have to rely on your phone at work, it’s important to be polite when you use it. We’ve gathered 10 tips for good cell phone etiquette when you’re using your phone at work.

  1. Lower your voice if you’re talking on the phone where other colleagues can hear and be distracted by your call.
  2. If possible, find a private room to make calls, especially personal phone calls.
  3. Set your phone on vibrate or silent at work to avoid disrupting others.
  4. Don’t answer the phone if you’re already talking face-to-face with someone. If it’s an important call, excuse yourself and step away to answer the phone.
  5. Avoid looking at your phone during conversations. Looking at your phone sends the message you’re distracted and not fully focused on the conversation.
  6. Don’t talk on the phone in small or private areas, such as elevators or bathrooms.
  7. Avoid texting or using your phone for other reasons during group meetings and client calls.
  8. Use your laptop, tablet, or pen and paper to take notes during meetings instead of your cell phone – which can make it look like you’re not paying attention at all.
  9. When you answer a call from a client, co-worker, or even a private number, answer politely and focus on the conversation you’re having, not on any other distractions at work.

10. At business dinners, turn off your cell phone if possible so that you’re not temped to check your messages or emails. Your client will appreciate that you’re giving them your full attention.

Another good tip? Keep your cell phone visible at your desk (and fully charged) with our aluminum phone stand. The RokDock keeps your phone in plain sight where you’ll be able to easily glance over and see if you have any messages or important meetings scheduled. It will help you stay on top of your game, while still minding your manners!

Rokform and the American Forests Global ReLeaf Program Have Planted over 50,000 Trees!

Lassen National Forest

Lassen National Forest

Happy Earth Month! We’re so proud to announce that through our partnership with the American Forests Global ReLeaf program and with your help, more than 50,000 trees have been planted in the US!

In California’s Lassen National Forests, 1,577 trees were planted to help restore the areas that fell victim to wildfire. In Markleeville, CA, 25,000 Jeffrey Pines were added to bring life back to a forest that was severely damaged after an illegal campfire. Rokform’s contribution to the Gold Planting Project also helped plant 11,127 trees in Tahoe National Forest to help diversify the plant species.

In Montana, 5,000 Ponderosa Pines have been planted to help restore durability and tolerance to wind and soil erosion in the forest.

“Rokform is committed to giving back, and seeing such great results from this partnership with American Forests encourages us to continue to do more,” says our CEO, Jeff Whitten. “It’s inspiring to see the results of our contribution, and to know the specific areas where we have had a positive impact.”

Since 1990, American Forests Global ReLeaf has planted more than 44 million trees to restore forest ecosystems in every state across the U.S. and 39 countries around the world. Rokfom is so happy to be part of their effort. Through local partnerships, Global ReLeaf is able to involve individuals, organizations, agencies and corporations in tree planting projects that restore local and global ecosystems.

“Our forests provide tremendous benefits for all of us, including clean air and water, habitat for wildlife, and places for recreation and relaxation,” says Scott Steen, American Forests CEO. “We’re pleased to be partnering with Rokform to help restore damaged forest ecosystems. Partners like Rokform help us make a real difference for the environment and the natural world.”

Here are just a few fun tree facts from American Forests:

·       A tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year, and can sequester one ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old.

·       One large tree can provide a supply of oxygen for two people.

·       According to the USDA Forest Service, “Trees properly placed around buildings can reduce air conditioning needs by 30 percent and save 20-50 percent in energy used for heating.”

·       The net cooling effect of a young, healthy tree is equivalent to ten room-size air conditioners operating 20 hours a day.

·       In one day, one large tree can lift up to 100 gallons of water out of the ground and discharge it into the air.

·       For every five percent of tree cover added to a community, stormwater runoff is reduced by approximately two percent.

·       Healthy trees provide wildlife habitat and contribute to the social and economic well-being of landowners and community residents.

If you’re the owner of a RokBed or RokLock case, you’ve already contributed to this great program. Thank you for all of your help!
